PROVIDENCE OR FOLLY
by
Jamie Dedes
With gullible hazel eyes fringed in black lace
she looked out at the world.
With ears tuned to pulpit and street
she mistook . . .
. . . love for wisdom
. . . suffering for sanctity
. . . sex for intimacy
. . . saccharine for sincerity.
Because she endured,
she thought she was strong.
She took the tarnished confines
of her dark, singular world
for the broad vision of her god.
Living by accident,
she died on purpose.

The focus of "The BeZine," a publication of The Bardo Group Beguines, is on sacred space (common ground) as it is expressed through the arts. Our work covers a range of topics: spirituality, life, death, personal experience, culture, current events, history, art, and photography and film. We share work here that is representative of universal human values however differently they might be expressed in our varied religions and cultures. We feel that our art and our Internet-facilitated social connection offer a means to see one another in our simple humanity, as brothers and sisters, and not as “other.” This is a space where we hope you’ll delight in learning how much you have in common with “other” peoples. We hope that your visits here will help you to love (respect) not fear. For more see our Info/Mission Statement Page.

Fabulous poem, Jamie. How this captures fractured heart pieces! Too many of us have done some or all to varying degrees – though we are still alive to tell of the loneliness that fueled the impetus to change!

It is all of us, isn’t it? Hadn’t really thought about that. Too close probably to the person I wrote about.
Thanks for your always much valued feedback, Amy.

Sad, final last words there, Jamie. Her mistaken perceptions took their toll.

it made me think about suicide and then questioned the link to God, his purpose, hers, which purpose? I LOVE pieces that make me think 🙂 so thank you!! Happy gooseberry day!!!

I don’t know about that, my friend, but I do hope you enjoyed it … despite it’s serious nature.

Oh…sometimes there is only so much…my friend always says to me…”even rocks crack…” and it is so true. You think you are resilient and can tackle anything, it is not always so. Again you really let us in…great verse.
