Mankind’s savage streak,
Weapons always close to hand.
Ready to rage, tear and flatten.
‘Collateral damage’ has slipped easily
into language, weaponry
into stock portfolios.
Big business profits, as death
is viewed in units and the bottom line
means more than life.
This is not humanity.
There is no brotherhood,
strong enough to overcome the need
for blood and money.
Some of us lack wealth and mourn the lost,
some of us take death at any cost.
