I wish I was more thankful for things before I lost my vision.
Driving, reading, colors, remembering faces, seeing the stars, being independent, my job, looking at photographs, watching my nephews grow up, seeing what I will look like older, nature, television, writing something down on a piece of paper, an art gallery, seeing the wonders of the world.
Perhaps I am more thankful now. Perhaps my lack of vision gave me more to be thankful for.
Yes my feet burn on the hot pavement. I still have legs.
The annoying sounds during the meditation. I still have hearing.
I have a migraine today. I am still alive!
Using my white cane down the busy street, I am present and aware.

There are some situations in life in which the gift of gratitude broadens and deepens and our ability to be present in the moment becomes more practiced. Well done, Wendy, and the photos are absolutely lovely, very like watercolors.

Important consideration, Wendy. I have had some vision scares and it really made me stop to think how important that sense is to a writer, reader and artist. It seems as though you turned this very difficult loss into a blessing–something many would not be able to do. The photos are beautiful.

Following the breath, enjoying the present moment of life…is it enough? That may be a koan. At least it’s a very good question to ponder. Thanks for making me wonder!

I’m impressed with your ability to capture soft light in your photographs. It’s so true that we often don’t know what we truly have until it’s taken from us. A very important lesson. Thank you for the reminder and for the beauty in your pictures and words. π
